SCROLL

Protruding ears or sail ears are among the most common ear deformities and affect about 5% of the population. Singe ears are said to occur when they protrude more than 2 cm from the side of the head. They typically occur on both sides and are caused by an underdeveloped or improperly formed anthelix fold (part of the Y-shaped cartilage near the center of the pinna). This causes the outer edge of the ear (helix) to protrude. It is also often the case that the auricle has an excessive amount of cartilage or is abnormally deep, causing the ear to push away from the head. Often there is a family history of the condition. Although they do not usually cause problems with hearing, they can be the cause of psychological problems (impairment of self-esteem).
Can protruding ears be corrected painlessly?
Protruding ears can be treated with surgical or non-surgical methods, depending on the age of the patient. At birth, the ear cartilage is soft and pliable and can be reshaped without surgery using the innovative Earwell® Children’s Ear Correction System. Over time, the ear cartilage becomes more rigid, so ear correction (otoplasty) is then the best treatment option, but it is more expensive than early treatment.
This means that during the first weeks of life, it is possible to reshape the ears painlessly and bring them closer to the head with the Earwell® child ear correction system. During a short visit to the practice, trained doctors apply the special ear shaping system within a few minutes. Over the next four to six weeks, the ear is gently restored to its natural shape and growth pattern without incisions or anesthesia. In most cases, this completes the entire process and no further treatment is required.

Treatment without surgery - does it even work?

The clear answer is: Yes! In about 90% of cases, a permanently convincing result can be achieved without pain. For this purpose, the EarWell® shell former exerts gentle pressure on the shell ridge. Due to the individually graduable use of the individual components of the EarWell® system, even mixed ear deformities can be corrected in a targeted manner.
